Spain. This individual cut his throat with a broken glass in a suicide attempt, the individual was suffering from a mental illness. Self-inflicted incised injuries from broken glass commonly present with multiple superficial, parallel hesitation cuts and a few deep, fatal transverse or oblique wounds to the anterior neck with transection of vessels or airway structures. Absence of defensive injuries, lack of signs of assault, and proximity of the glass support a suicidal manner. Forensic processing includes documentation of bloodstain patterns, recovery of glass fragments, fingerprint and touch DNA analysis, and chain of custody. Autopsy evaluates wound depth, trajectory, tissue bridging, and orders toxicology and review of psychiatric history to contextualize intent.
