Slashing lacerations on the face in a fatal attack often indicate a sharp-force injury caused by a bladed weapon, such as a knife or machete. These wounds are typically deep, with irregular edges if force is excessive, and may involve underlying structures like muscles, nerves, or bone. Hesitation wounds are rare in homicidal cases. The direction and depth can suggest the assailant’s handedness and attack angle. Defensive wounds on the hands may indicate the victim tried to shield themselves. Blood spatter patterns help reconstruct the attack sequence. Facial injuries may also suggest overkill, personal motive, or expressive violence.
