A 54-year-old man was found dead on his bed next to a red shoehorn. Perhaps he just wanted to do something new and exciting, but for some unknown reason, he came to the conclusion that shoving his red shoehorn up his ass would be an excellent idea. It wasn’t.

The man suffered a serious hemorrhage due to trauma following the insertion of a shoehorn (lying next to the body) into the rectum. Deep rectal tears were associated with extensive blood loss, part of which can be seen under the decedent and on the floor to the left of the bed. Death occurred from serious rectal trauma and he bled to death.

A large collection of blood next to the decedent was associated with self-inflicted rectal trauma from the shoehorn that was found next to the body. The yellow liquid seen on the floor is serum which was separated during clotting, also known as serum separation, and the black mass is a largely formed clot. The main pool of blood has dried up and taken a darker color as the serum is forced out.
