Avulsion laceration produced from a shearing-type force, with a resultant ‘flap’ of torn & undermined tissue. Raccoon eyes also known as bruising around the eyes or periorbital hematoma or periorbital bruising (ecchymosis) with tarsal plate sparing, is a sign of basal skull fracture. Raccoon eyes results from blood from skull fracture tracking down into the soft tissue around the eye. Raccoon eyes may also be referred to as panda eyes, especially in the UK.
