A 58-year-old woman was found dead in her bed with blood emanating from her mouth. The blood was found to arise from a previously undiagnosed squamous cell carcinoma of the lung that had invaded a pulmonary artery branch and an adjacent bronchus, thus forming a broncho-arterial fistula with rapid exsanguination. A broncho-arterial fistula is an abnormal connection between a bronchus and a nearby artery, potentially causing life-threatening complications like hemoptysis, respiratory distress, or severe bleeding.
