Spain. The throat of this elderly woman was cut in a homicide. A homicidal throat cut refers to a deliberate act of cutting the throat in a manner intended to cause death. This is a form of sharp-force trauma typically seen in homicides, though it can also occur in suicides or accidents. In homicides, the cut is usually deep, forceful, and often located on the front of the neck, possibly extending from one side to the other. Homicidal cuts may sever the jugular veins, carotid arteries, or even the trachea (windpipe) and larynx (voice box), leading to rapid blood loss, air embolism, or suffocation.
