Spain. The throat of this individual was cut in a homicide. A homicidal throat cut is usually forceful, deep, and directed across the front or side of the neck, often severing major vessels like the carotid arteries and jugular veins. Unlike suicidal cuts, which are typically hesitant, multiple, and angled, homicidal cuts show decisive, uninterrupted force with no hesitation marks. The wound’s depth, trajectory, and tissue damage can indicate attacker’s handedness and weapon type. Massive external bleeding is typical, but internal aspiration of blood into lungs may also occur. Defensive injuries on hands and arms, plus scene evidence, strongly support homicide. Autopsy focuses on sharp-force trauma patterns and blood loss.
