Scrotal enlargement from gas formation

The scrotal area enlarges during decomposition due to the buildup of gases produced by bacteria involved in the breakdown of tissues. This process, called putrefaction, generates gases like methane, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon dioxide. These gases accumulate in soft tissues, causing them to swell, including in areas like the scrotum where the skin is thin and extensible. The increased gas pressure, combined with fluid shifts from tissue breakdown, contributes to this noticeable swelling.
